How involved have you been in Sanggu’s activities this school year?

Carlo Chong“Well, I’ve been quite involved as a block representative although I’ve been swamped with academics and other extra-curricular activities. I still believe my involvement in the Sanggu has been more than the average Atenean’s. Just look as what is happening with the Gadfly controversy, even though the Sanggunian is doing its best to serve the student body, majority of the Ateneo community is still not satisfied with their performance.”
- Carlo Francisco Chong (I AB Comm)

Miguel Villaroel
“Actually, I wasn’t really involved. I don’t even know what the activities themselves are. I don’t really care about the activities. They just told people [about] their projects but they didn’t push the student body to join.”
- Miguel Anton Villarroel (II BS LM)

Paola Palma
“I ran for block representative but I myself wasn’t able to vote. I knew some issues like the dress code and the smocket issues, the stuff that are visible and what the students see. But aside from that, I’m not really aware of their other activities.”
- Paola Alexandra Palma (II AB Comm)

Seo Hyunkyo

“I have never [participated] in any project of Sanggu because I’m not really interested and I don’t think [the projects] really help the students.”
- Seo Hyunkyo (I BS LM)

Aaron Dimaano

“Well, I’ve seen that they are really focused on empowering the course reps and the block reps. So in our case, Development Studies, we really saw that. We engaged in the success of our course project which was ‘Ugat.’ Although, we also understood that even our block reps and course reps were not really helped out much by Sanggunian itself, but still it was a Sanggunian project and it was our own way of being active in the Sanggunian.”
- Aaron Marc Dimaano (III AB DS), The Assembly president

Miguel Rabat

“Frankly speaking, I am not active because there are no projects. The Sanggu [just came] up with this dress code to [say that they’re] involved with the school [but] they’re really not. The only thing that makes the Sanggu the Sanggu is the name. The Sanggu is nowhere to be seen.”
- Miguel Carlos Rabat (I BS LM)

Sheila Gastilo

“I’m not aware of their activities. I don’t even know any of their projects. ‘Cause it’s either their projects are not promulgated or promoted properly or I don’t know that they are the ones doing that project. The only thing I know about them is that they are the ones who announce if there are classes or not during typhoons. I really don’t feel their presence.”
- Sheila Gastilo (III BS LM)

William Timoteo

“I only participated in one project of Sanggu and that was the accounting tutorials for the second long test of the first semester. I think the project was good because it aimed in helping sophomore students in accounting. The only problem with the project was that it wasn’t organized properly since it was planned too late and there were very few facilitators.”
- William Henry Timoteo (III BS Mgt)
Meong Arahan

“‘Yung napansin ko lang kasi sa Sanggu ngayon, active lang sila nun’ sa Sumilao, so dun ako na-involve. Actually, hindi pa gaanong involved kasi sumali lang ako sa Multiply site. Naging updated naman ako pero hindi ako naging ganoon ka-active sa Sanggu kasi hindi naman sila gaanong reachable sa tao eh.
- Romeo Arahan Jr. (III AB Eco)

Jerry Rimando

“I was not that involved [in] the Sanggu activities because [they] were not well-promoted and then there’s also little communication within Sanggu that they do not invite regular students to just participate in their projects. At the same time, if ever they have projects, their projects are not well in line with regard to the students’ development and do not really cater to the needs of the students.”
- John Jeremiah Rimando (III AB Eco)

Nikki Antonio

“In all my four years in Ateneo, I have never been active in any Sanggu activity because I rarely hear of any project they are conducting. The only one I did attend was the one for the Sumilao farmers because that was the only one that had been clearly visible.”
- Nicole Cesrie Antonio (IV BS CTM)

  1. Dani Eleazar Says:

Surprisingly, I’ve involved myself more than I would have expected on my first year. I thought I’d be handling less but ever since I’ve gotten the position as blockrep, I was able to work for SOM projects like the PiSOM drive and SOM Sporsfest. Then again, since Sanggu has a problem with transparency, I guess not a lot of people know about these activities which would then explain why not a lot of people get to participate in them. -Dani (I BS CTM)
